Commas
The comma is a punctuation mark that is used within a sentence to represent a slight pause.
1. Use a comma to set off items in a series.
ex. Lexy bought apple juice, tomatoes, and strawberries at the store.
I love reading books, watching movies, and riding bicycles.
2. In a compound sentence (where two independent clauses are joined by conjunctions such or, and, or but) use a comma before the conjunction.
ex. Sally rode her bicycle, and the dog ran beside her.
Bill wanted a ride to school, but Samantha was running late.
3. Use a comma in a complex sentence after the introductory subordinate clause.
ex. When I think back to my childhood, I always remember swimming
in the quarry.
